Manchester United are close to finalising a deal that will bring Portuguese starlet Renato Sanches from Benfica to the Premier League this summer.
Appearing on BT Sport’s European Football Show last night, journalist Andy Brassell confirmed that club President Luís Filipe Vieira was in Manchester last week to confirm a schedule for the deal, which could reportedly be worth as much as €80m. Brassell suggested that half will be up front with the other €40m in add-ons and bonuses in a deal similar to the one United inked with AS Monaco for the purchase of Anthony Martial last summer.
The figures quoted are mouthwatering for an 18-year old, albeit one who has made over 50 appearances this season and the deal is certainly based around Sanches’ potential as opposed to his current level. Still, with United hoping to seal the deal before Euro 2016 kicks off in France, the Portuguese will likely have plenty of time to begin adjusting to his new surroundings over the summer.
