Matteo Darmian is a doubt for the remainder of Manchester United’s season after suffering an ankle injury in the early stages of Saturday’s 0-1 victory over Norwich City.
Darmian, who started at left back went down after tussling with Ivo Pinto and had to be stretchered off to be replaced by Cameron Borthwick-Jackson. Thankfully, United boss Louis van Gaal wasn’t too downbeat on the nature of the injury, meaning the Italian could well still make the national squad ahead of Euro 2016 this summer after returning to the bench with his foot in a cast after being removed from the pitch.
“We have to wait and see,” said Van Gaal after full time. “Darmian has a kick on the ankle so we will have to see the reaction tomorrow. It is too early to say. Now he is walking in a brace but, tomorrow, it can be good again because a kick is a kick.”
