Chris Smalling has been voted Manchester United’s Player’s Player of the Year.
The award, voted for by the club’s first team squad and presented at yesterday’s annual awards night was in recognition of Smalling’s best campaign in a United shirt, with the England centre back forming a solid partnership with Daley Blind that has helped provide 17 clean sheets, the most in the Premier League.
Smelling had this to say after being presented with the award: “It’s a massive honour to receive this from my fellow players. There are some big names on the winners’ list, so it’s great to add mine to it. We’ve been quite solid as a team defensively.
“[The captaincy] is a huge honour and it’s great that the manager has shown faith in me. It’s nice that after Michael Carrick and Wayne Rooney I get the chance. It really adds to your own sense of leadership.”
