Manchester United fans have voted Anthony Martial’s stunning solo effort in his debut appearance against Liverpool as the club’s Goal of the Season.
The goal, which saw United’s young Frenchman dribble between several defenders before firing a low drive beyond Simon Mignolet in the Liverpool goal sealed a 3-1 win, and announced the former Monaco player’s talent after his hotly criticised £36m summer move.
Martial, who sealed his 15th goal of the season in United’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Sunday had this to say:
“It was a fantastic atmosphere on the day and thankfully the manager had confidence in me to put me on. The guys really backed me up and it’s thanks to them that I was able to score.
“Scoring goals earlier in the season certainly helped me to settle in and I had the support of the staff and the players which really helped too. I want to score more next season, that’s normal.”
