Manchester United return to Premier League action at Old Trafford on Saturday, with a win against all-but relegated Aston Villa essential in order to keep their slim hopes of a top four finish and Champions League football next season alive. Here’s how we think Van Gaal will set his side up at 3pm tomorrow afternoon:
Given the success United enjoyed against West Ham United in midweek, expect the front three of Martial, Lingard and Rashford to remain untouched, with Herrera and Fellaini to continue swapping between the number 10 and number 8 roles. Carrick will likely be rested having played 90 minutes on Wednesday, with Morgan Schneiderlin the most likely replacement.
At the back, Marcos Rojo should make way for Antonio Valencia, considering that the Argentine has been substituted in four of his last five appearances. Timothy Fosu-Mensah put in a wonderful display against West Ham, even when shifted to left back when Valencia was introduced late on at Upton Park, so expect the Ecuadorian to start in his usual slot under Van Gaal at right back.
