Wayne Rooney left frustrated after Newcastle draw

Wayne Rooney has voiced his disappointment after Manchester United conceded a late equalizer to draw 3-3 with Newcastle United on Tuesday night.

Rooney, 30 arguably put in his finest display for United all season, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist for team mate Jesse Lingard but it wasn’t enough to take all 3 points away from St James Park.

Speaking to MUTV he said, ” I think after going 2-0 up we were in control of the game, and then we’ve let them back into it. To then get our third goal and concede again was disappointing from us.”

” I think they were silly goals to concede on our behalf and they were avoidable. They have cost us two points so were disappointed.”

He went on to further add, ” We cant keep going on conceding three goals every game so we have to work on that and create the chances without giving goals away.”

United’s style of football of football has been called into question heavily this season with head coach Louis Van Gaal seemingly reluctant to play an attacking brand of football, however Rooney was quick to point out that last nights displays was a much more better attacking performance from the side.

” I think we are always trying to create chances. Obviously we know that’s our aim, that’s what we work on everyday at the training ground. Sometimes its difficult but on nights like tonight we did it so we need to keep working and keep trying to improve.”
