Louis van Gaal and Manchester United are back in action this midweek, this time in the Capital One Cup against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford with an 8pm BST kick-off.
Manchester United will be hoping for a good cup run this season, but with a smaller squad than last, less chance of bulk rotational squad moves. Players such as Javier Hernandez and Adnan Januzaj would’ve played in cup matches like this, but now Louis van Gaal might have to look at some of his normal first-team players, hoping that no injuries would be picked up ahead of the clash with Sunderland on Saturday.
As we look at the this match, we first of all look to one of the heroes of the weekend, David De Gea – We think that Van Gaal will rest the Spanish shot stopper this Wednesday, opting for Sergio Romero with Sam Johnstone on the bench.
Looking at Manchester United’s defence, we’ve gone for Marcos Rojo on the left-hand side taking the place of Daley Blind, with Paddy McNair slotting into the middle alongside Chris Smalling. One player who needs more game time this season, is that of Antonio Valencia, we predict he’ll start at right-back.
Moving into Manchester United’s strong midfield; we’ve gone for Ander Herrera and Bastian Schweinsteiger with Wayne Rooney playing the number ten role in front of them.
Ashley Young get’s a place back in the team on the left hand side, with hopefully, youngster Andreas Pereira on the right hand side, filtering into the middle of the park and adding an extra threat going forward.
One selection that United Ramble, and many Manchester United fans on social media, is that of James Wilson – He did feature for the under-21s against Everton on Monday evening, but we’re hoping that he will get at least an hour at Old Trafford to prove his worth.
