Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has come on on Thursday afternoon, defended Hector Moreno of PSV Eindhoven after making a challenge that left United’s Luke Shaw with a double fracture in his right leg.
There are many Manchester United fans that would state that Luke Shaw has been one of the players of the season for the reds, making excellent progress since the start of the season after keeping up with maximum fitness during the summer break, but now after a double leg fracture, Shaw could be out for a minimum of six months.
Manchester United staff and boss Louis Van Gaal believed that Hector Moreno should have been sent off for the horror challenge, yet ex-United captain Roy Keane claimed that it was a “brilliant” tackle.
Roy Keane told ITV:
“I thought it was a brilliant challenge. I love the physical side of the game.
“You can always tell by player reactions and none of the United lads at the time, and players are the best judges because they are nearest the tackle, reacted over the top thinking it was a bad challenge.
“And when players are travelling that speed, defending like that, injuries are going to happen. I’m surprised there are not more like it. It was more of an accident at the end of it with his trailing foot.”
