This week UEFA announced some important news which is likely to have been missed with all the excitement over Bayern Munich’s comeback and Chicharito’s dramatic winner for Real Madrid.
For the 2015/16 campaign, the eight top seeds will be from the champions from Europe’s top seven leagues and the competition’s holders. The Premier League will now have only one top-seeded club in next season’s Champions League draw.
The change in rules should lead to more of Europe’s major clubs meeting each other in the group stage. This can only be a good thing for the competition as a spectacle as we will see many more ‘groups of death’. For a long time the group stages have been quite predictable so hopefully make the group stages more exciting.
First things first, we need to make sure that we are one step closer to being in that draw next season with three points against Everton this Sunday.
