Victor Valdes is all set to make his Manchester United debut in the FA Cup fourth round tie against Cambridge United at Abbey Stadium.
The former Barcelona goalkeeper, who signed an 18 month contract earlier this month, was named on the bench for United’s recent Premier League games against Southampton and QPR. However he is expected to make his first appearance since recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury in Barcelona’s clash with Celta Vigo last year.
The Spaniard, who had been poised to join Monaco before he was struck down by his injury, had spent three months completing his rehabilitation at Old Trafford before being offered a contract by Van Gaal to join United as a backup for David de Gea.
With Valdes needing game time to adapt to the Premier League, Van Gaal is all set to hand him his first start for the club against League Two minnows Cambridge on Friday.
