Manchester United striker Robin van Persie will undergo a scan this week to determine the extent of the ankle injury he suffered during the game against Southampton.
The Dutchman was subbed off for Ander Herrera after an hour and although it looked like a tactical one at that time, Louis van Gaal confirmed later on that the striker was taken off due to an ankle injury.
Van Persie was set to attend the Ballon D’or ceremony after being nominated for the Goal of the Year award, but he’ll now miss the event on the advice of the club’s medical staff and stay back in Manchester.
This could turn into a big opportunity for Radamel Falcao who was bizarrely left out of the matchday squad against Southampton. The Columbian will be desperate to show that the manager can rely on him to produce the goods as he tries to earn a permanent deal at Old Trafford.
