Manchester United, Mercedes-Benz Cup Champions – Sounds good doesn’t it, well on Sunday the club was crowned just that after some fantastic heroics from young goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira over in Germany.
Manchester United were in the final against VfB Stuttgart in Sindelfingen – Germany, and after the match had finished 0-0 in not the most exciting of matches that you will ever see, United’s goalkeeper Joel Castro Pereira saved three of the VfB Stuttgart’s penalty kicks, to be the hero and crown Manchester United, the six-a-side Mercedes-Benz Cup Junior Champions.
The Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup tournament was held over the 3rd/4th January 2015, with eight team involved. Those team were Manchester United, VfB Stuttgart, Celtic, Schalke 04, Grasshopper Club Zurich, Fenerbahce, Hoffenheim and Borussia Monchengladbach.
Manchester United beat VfB Stuttgart, Schalke, Hoffenheim and Grasshoppers in previous rounds to get themselves to the final of the tournament, to win in crowning glory after finishing in third place in last years tournament.
Not only did Manchester United win the tournament, Joel Castro Pereira the hero, but young Joe Riley was awarded the Player of the Tournament prize after the match, too. The future is bright for United.
