Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher said that the players are eager to end the club’s long drought in the FA Cup competition after defeating Yeovil 2-0 in the third round tie at Huish Park.
Fletcher is the only player in the current United squad who has a FA Cup winner’s medal and he believes that the Old Trafford club can go all the way in this year’s competition.
United eased past Yoevil with goals from Ander Herrera and Angel di Maria after the home side made a positive start to the game and Fletcher praised United’s battling spirit after they dug in and earned their place in the next round.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, that there was going to be tackles flying in – it was going to be lively.”
“You have to battle before you can win the match. We did that today. We battled for maybe 60-70 minutes and then Ander Herrera scored a fantastic goal and sometimes that’s what it takes.”
“We are in the draw for the next round. It has been too long since Manchester United have won this competition and we really want to win it this year.”
