Luke Shaw wants more minutes in the first team having made his first start for Louis van Gaal’s side in the draw against Stoke City.
Shaw was disappointed to come back with only a point from the Britannia Stadium but wants to make up for it in the game against Yeovil Town in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
“Coming to Stoke is always going to be a battle, with a lot of balls in the air so it was tough for me,” said Shaw.
“We always want to get maximum points when we come away. We didn’t do that, it wasn’t our day, so we’re going to have to focus on the next game [at Yeovil Town in the FA Cup].”
“I need game time now. I had [around] 60 minutes against Stoke and that was pre-planned. If I had been able to go on longer then I would have done, but I think the main thing for me now is to get a run of games together.”
“It was a great feeling watching the team do well [in my absence]. We always want to win the games and now I am back fit I want to be a part of the winning run.”
Shaw also expressed sympathy for Ashley Young who has been filling in for him as a left wing back and has performed superbly in recent weeks but will be out for some time having suffered from a hamstring injury in the last game.
“There’s massive competition for me. I think it’s a big credit to Ashley Young. He has been superb, one of our best players for the last four or five matches. It’s just unfortunate for him that’s he got this injury now. I hope it’s not too bad. I hope he comes fighting back again.”
