United defender won’t be back before Christmas

Chris Smalling will be out for at least two weeks with a minor groin strain suffered during this week’s win over Southampton. The Defender is not expected be available until Boxing Day clash with Newcastle at The earliest

The big England defender limped out of the 2-1 victory early in the first-half after pulling up without an opponent close by, scans have highlighted a minor groin strain, but one which is set to keep Smalling out until the busy festive season games commence.

Smalling’s absence sees the former Fulham player join fellow defenders Luke Shaw and Phil Jones on the sidelines leaving the reds with little cover at the back.

Rafael da Silva, who has been out of action for six weeks, is available again after returning to training 10 days ago.

This continues united miserable streak of injuries taking it to a total of 45 since Louis Van Gaal took over in July
