RATINGS: Southampton vs Manchester United

David de Gea – Made some good saves but was never stopping the Southampton goal. 7

Antonio Valencia – Not a right-back but did the job. He was kept back for most of the game so didn’t venture forward much. 6

Chris Smalling – Forced off with an injury midway through the first half after starting well. 6

Paddy McNair – Didn’t look the same player that has been so assured so far in his debut season. 3

Marcos Rojo –.Showed worrying signs that he lacks concentration, caught in possession too often and made some poor passes. 4

Ashley Young –Played well, kept himself involved in the game and was always willing to take the ball forwards. One of United’s brighter performers. 7

Michael Carrick – Did the usual role expected of him. Made some good interceptions and recycled possession although the killer pass wasn’t there for him. 5

Marouane Fellaini – A bad game for Fellaini. It felt like everything he did went wrong despite being massively involved in the game, He couldn’t even foul properly. Hopefully just a bad game and his recent form is back for the weekend. 3

Juan Mata – Didn’t get into the game at all. We expect a lot more from the little Spaniard. 4

Robin van Persie – Without doubt United’s best player. Took both his goals like the Van Persie of 2 seasons ago. His hold-up play was immense and kept going to the end. Hopefully this marks the return of a the real Robin Van Persie not the imposter that has been here most of the season. Man of the Match. 9

Wayne Rooney – Poor. Didn’t get hold of the game and complained every time something didn’t go his way. 4

Jonny Evans – Looked rusty but it felt more assured as the game went on. 6

Ander Herrera – Was at the heart of some good passing moves and kept the game flowing. Makes you wonder why he isn’t a regular starter. 7

Darren Fletcher – Trademark Fletcher sub appearance. N/A
