Juan Mata believes Manchester United’s recent winning streak will help them have a good run in the festive period.
Mata scored the winner as United defeated a spirited Stoke side at Old Trafford with the victory extending United’s winning run to four matches.
When quizzed about United’s recent good run, Mata felt that the hard fought win over Arsenal at the Emirates was the catalyst.
It was very important to win at Arsenal and then to get two wins in a row at home.”
“Now we have the chance to have a great December – probably the most important month in the league because we play more (games).”
“The spirit is there. We have not been lucky with injuries, we’ve had important players that could not play, but the spirit is there.”
“Everyone was very happy in the dressing room after the game because it was a difficult game and we showed character.”
”It was very tough and we were, until the last minute, suffering. They played good in their way. They came here as a very compact team and they play good counter-attacks.”
“At the end, it’s a very important win, a fourth win in a row and we are getting closer.”
United’s next game against Southampton is a potential six-pointer with United battling them for a place in the top 4. A win would definitely boost United’s confidence while also helping them stay close to Chelsea and City to keep alive the unlikely hope of winning the title in Van Gaal’s first season in charge.
