United keeper joins Doncaster on loan

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan until January.

Johnstone spent some time at the Yorkshire club last season making 18 appearences for the league one outfit. He has now returned for another spell in the hope to get some valuable experience playing in the lower leagues.

Paul Dickovs side are set to release Aston Villa loanee, Jed Steer soon so they are in need of a replacement and Johnstone fits that bill. He is tipped for international recognition with England and is a regular in Gareth Southgate’s under 21’s squad which recently qualified for the European Championships next year.

With competition so strong at Old Trafford with David De Gea now showing everyone he is world class and about to take Iker Casillas`s place as Spain`s number 1 and the possibility of Victor Valdes signing as De Gea`s cover, Johnstone is unlikely to get game time for the first team especially as United were dumped out of the league cup by MK Dons.

Paul Dickov’s side are currently 20th in League One, one point above the relegation zone.
