Louis van Gaal delivered some good news for Manchester United on Friday afternoon during his press conference, revealing that Michael Carrick is all set to make his return to football for the club, being used as an over-aged player in next Friday’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League clash for Manchester United against West Ham United.
Michael Carrick is in line to face his former club, West Ham United in next Friday’s game in a bid to prove his fitness after being side-lined since the close season with an ankle injury.
Speaking during his press conference at Carrington, Louis van Gaal said:
“He also needs match rhythm and, until now, he has not played a match so we have to give him a chance to play a match,
“Maybe next Friday with the second squad.
“Maybe we’ll use him on the bench [on Monday] but I don’t know.”
It was not the only good news that Louis van Gaal gave United fans on Friday, he also confirmed that fellow midfielder Ander Herrera is scheduled to play in a specially-designed corset against West Brom as he strives to protect the fractured rib he suffered against West Ham at Old Trafford.
“Herrera is a fit player and he only had a rib fracture so we can play him with a corset, then he can play. But, of course, I have to select him first.”
