PREDICTED XI: West Brom v Man Utd

The start of a difficult run that will show us how far United have come since last season

Manchester United begin a run of games that will see them face West Brom, Chelsea, Man City, Crystal Palace and Arsenal within the next few weeks. The start of that run is against a West Brom side that have started to find their feet under their new boss Allan Irvine and much like ourselves have improved drastically in the last few games. United are yet to win a game away from home this season so winning this game is crucial to end that as well as to keep the momentum going ahead of that huge game against Chelsea at Old Trafford next Sunday. The major problem last season was United’s inability to keep momentum going into a strong run which we had seen under Sir Alex so there is no doubt Louis van Gaal will be desperate to ensure we make it three wins in a row.

The injury crisis at Old Trafford appears to be easing with Phil Jones, Ashley Young, Michael Carrick and Ander Herrera all set to be available to van Gaal again for this game. Ander Herrera has given the boss a very welcome boost with the midfielders rib injury not as bad as first feared which is great because he has been brilliant so far and looks to be what we’ve missed in central midfield in previous years. Phil Jones’ return could allow van Gaal to select a central defensive partnership that is more experienced which is crucial in a Premier League away game. Radamel Falcao will be hoping to continue his scoring form after scoring for Colombia during the International Break following on from his winner against Everton. It looks like Falcao could be coming into form at the perfect time for us with all the huge games coming up against the three of last seasons top 4. Wayne Rooney will serve the second of his three game suspension so Juan Mata will continue in the number ten role behind Falcao and Van Persie. The type of game this is will really allow Angel Di Maria to get at the West Brom defence with West Brom looking to attack Utd as they are the home side so Di Maria could cause havoc with the space on the counter attack.

West Brom have been on a good run of form after a slow start. They deserved to get a point against Liverpool at Anfield and were really unlucky to lose that game. The danger man for them is someone who most United fans will remember from last season striker Saido Berahino who has 5 Premier League goals so far this season. He is at his best running at defenders so that is something that the entire United will be aware of because he does like to drift all around the front line whether its the middle or on either wing. West Brom look strong defensively with Joleon Lescott having added experience and quality to the defence and making sure he struggles will be key for United winning the game.
