The first big test of the season for Man Utd and Louis Van Gaal.
Man Utd face an Everton side that beat them twice last season and will no doubt idly want to get one over on the Merseyside team. The injury crisis goes on for Louis Van Gaal but it has been somewhat eased with James Wilson, Marouane Fellani and Michael Carrick returning to full training. However the defensive crisis still continues with hopes that Phil Jones might be available for the game quashed by the manager.
Chris Smalling and Johnny Evans are also still out with injuries. Tyler Blackett is available to Louis Van Gaal again after serving a one match ban for his sending off at Leicester which gives the Utd manager another defensive option to chose from. However the Dutchman suggested in his pre match press conference that our other promising young centre back Paddy McNair who did so well against West Ham will be given another opportunity to show what he can do and there is no tougher test physically for him than Lukaku but I genulnly believ he will be able to handle the Belgium striker. Wayne Rooney is suspended following his red card against West Ham so Juan Mata is set to start in the number 10 position. With Ander Herrera’s injury Adnan Januzaj is the most likely player to come in for the Spaniard. A number of youth players have been training with the first team this week, those promoted by the boss to the first team are Tom Thorpe, Marick Vermijl and Saidy Janko.
As a Utd fan I find it very exciting knowing our manager is giving these young players a chance in the first team like Sir Alex always did.
Our opponents on Sunday Everton have had a stuttering start to the season conceding a high number of goals and like us suffering a high number of injuries. Their Europa League commitments have hindered their form in the Premier League. Everton’s most recent Europa League game took them to Russia which can play to Utds advantage with the attacking quality Utd possess it could prove too much for a tired Everton side to handle. Kevin Mirralas is out of the game at Old Trafford for Everton while Everton also have concerns over the fitness of Seamus Coleman and Sylvain Distin. The one everton player to keep a close eye on will be Lukaku who has pace and is brilliant in the air so Marcos Rojo and Paddy McNair will need to be on top form against him.
Predicted Team Line-up:
Rafael McNair Rojo Shaw
Januzaj Di Maria
Falcao Van Persie
Man Utd 2-1 Everton
