Predicted XI & Preview: Manchester United v West Ham

After the defeat to Leicester United will look to bounce back against a new look West Ham

The best way to forget a bad result is to win the next game however defensive injuries have put that idea in doubt. Phil Jones, Johnny Evans and Chris Smalling are all out injured meaning Marcos Rojo is the only fit senior centre back available to Louis Van Gall. Van Gaal does have some options to consider for this vital game. Darren Fletcher has played centre back in games before and is the most experienced option available for consideration however he has struggled in this position when he has played there and its a big risk against a Premier League side such as West Ham with the way they now play.

Personally I would like to see Tom Thorpe given the opportunity to play in the first team. Thorpe has been one of the best players in the youth set up for the last few years and its about time for him to be given a chance. Of course its not the ideal scenario for him to be given that chance but the situation calls for a player who is experienced at playing in the position rather than a central midfielder filling in. In terms of the rest of the team I think Juan Mata should come into the side for Robin Van Persie who didn’t really do that much apart from scoring his goal. Due to the central defensive injuries Luke Shaw will make his debut for the club at left back.

West Ham are a completely different team to what we are used to. They have been transformed by their new signings and as we saw against Liverpool they are a very good team who now play some very good attacking football. United will have to get a grip of the wide players quickly in the game or West Ham will be encouraged to attack the makeshift defence which could lead to a lot of problems for Louis Van Gaal’s side. Attack will definitely be the best form of defence for United on Saturday, West Ham aren’t the best defensively and we should look to exploit the lack of pace in the back four of West Ham Di Maria will be our most important player his pace and his vision of passing will be the difference in United getting a win or not because he is such a wonderful player. Louis Van Gaal may need to look at making sure Daley Blind isn’t marked out of the game like he was by Leicester as we saw that really made a big difference to the way the team played. Blind provides the link up from the middle to the front players and from the Leicester game its clear to see what an important player he has already become for Man Utd.
