PICTURE: Manchester United Predicted Line-Up

6 fresh faces and even more faces thrown out, a new era is well and truly underway at Manchester United. Louis Van Gaal has seemingly brought in the players that he believes can restore the glory of past seasons. Players that he believes will help him implant his much talked about “Philosophy” at the club. The new arrivals definitely leave us all guessing as to what Louis Van Gaal’s new starting XI will look like. Whether he will stick with the 3-5-2 formation which has failed to impress so far at United or whether he will revert back to his 4-3-3. Either way we here at United Ramble have you covered, here is a look at what I believe will be United’s strongest line-up in both these formations.

5-3-2/3-4-1-2

3-5-2

The Goal Keeper : No arguments required. Put him in goal and Dave Saves.

Three Center Backs : Rojo, Jonny Evans and Phil Jones. Yes, Jonny Evans has had a horrid time in the middle of the back three for the last couple of games but we must not forget that he is just coming back from an injury and is severely lacking fitness. One pre-season game after enjoying the world cup from the comfort of his home much like us wouldn’t have helped his fitness at all either. When fully fit and in his game Jonny Evans is actually quite a good center back and can even pick out a pass even though his last two games suggest he is playing football for the first time. On the right side of the back three we have Phil Jones who is quite simply the best CB at the club at the moment. Having been unable to play regularly at CB throughout his career so far this could be the season he proves all his doubters wrong. On the left side of the back three is new boy and Argentinian Street Fighter Marcos Rojo. He has shown that he is more than capable of bringing out the ball from defense with his performances in the worldcup for Argentina in the LB and LWB roles. Rojo becomes the man to fulfill LVG’s long standing desire to have a left footed center back in his defense.

The Wing Backs : Luke Shaw and Rafael. Both are fast paced and love bombing forward at every opportunity they have. Luke Shaw was the best attacking left back in the league last season and most importantly he is not Ashley Young. Rafael is one player  who I personally tipped to be a star for United in this formation with Wing-backs. Better defensively and I would say going forward as well compared to the state that Valencia is in right now.

The Midfield Trio : Blind,Herrera and Di Maria. Blind will function as the deepest out of the trio and will be tasked with recycling position. I do see Carrick coming back from his injury and displacing the Dutchman. Would not be surprised if he is moved further back and into the Heart of the back three in the future. It’s a shame that we have only seen 60 odd minutes of Herrera in a competitive game for United. The Spaniard is the man who will be tasked with dictating the tempo of the game and we have all see how well he does it during the pre-season. Di Maria over Mata? It quite a simple decision if united are to stick with the 3-5-2. Di Maria brings much needed pace and attacking threat from deep by running at the defense compared to Mata who is more inclined to stay in the hole and spray passes. We have struggled in the past three games due to the lack of pace in the front three and Di Maria is the perfect man to change the situation.

The Front Two : Rooney and Falcao. A fully fit Falcao gets into any side in the world. So no real argument at all about his inclusion is required. The question that we need an answer to is who is better equipped to play with him as his partner. I have gone with Rooney due to his ability to influence the game. RVP is a great finisher but is not able to have much impact on the game if he isn’t getting the service. Rooney playing would also allow Di Maria more freedom to push forward as Rooney is some one who will drop deep no matter which position he plays.

4-3-3

4-3-3

The Goalkeeper : David De Gea Enough Said !!

The Back Four : Rojo and Phil Jones as Center Backs, Luke Shaw and Rafael as Fullbacks. Once again Rojo being a left footed center back starts on the left side along with Phil Jones on the right. Luke Shaw starts on the Left of a back four and Rafael in the Right. For very obvious reasons.  If Valencia’s names comes to your mind get it out of your heard right now.

The Midfield Trio : Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata. Blind is likely to start every game in the holding role till Carrick’s return. Ander Herrera playing his normal game. Did i mention he is a boss at it? Honestly can’t wait for the guy to be back. Yes, I am a total fanboy. Mata in the role of an advanced playmaker but I personally wouldn’t be surprised to see Di Maria in the role with Rooney playing left wing.

The Front Three : Di Maria Left,Falcao Center and Adnan Januzaj on the right. No Rooney or Van Persie. Playing either of them means playing them out of position. I see Falcao as our lone striker even with RVP fit. Rooney can arguably do a job in the left hand side and Di Maria could move to the right although we would be getting another transfer request sooner or later. Januzaj; the boy who can do anything will only be able to do something when he plays. Falcao with Di Maria and Januzaj on the wings..that is one truly amazing prospect I can’t wait to see. Forget Rooney,RVP and Falcao.

This is how  I believe United will line up in both these formations, but I am no Van Gaal. I believe that Louis Van Gaal will stick with the 3-5-2 for sometime to come but who am I to say. (Watch us Play 4-3-3 against QPR). How do you think we would be lining up with all the fresh new faces at the club? Rooney,RVP and Falcao all start?  Or should we go all out and play the 1-1-8 ?
