Ed Woodward is a name that is not the most favourable with Manchester United fans, mainly due to last summers transfer window and also during this window with lack of transfers and spending after promising so much during an interview with the clubs television network, MUTV.
But now, a petition started by a Manchester United fan from Belfast has come to light on change.org, with a aim to get CEO Ed Woodward removed from his post at the club.
The petition has already received over 1,400 signatures by the time this article was sent live.
Now, this petition is nothing short than a pathetic attempt to gain some sort of momentum over social media, one that seems to be getting exposure amongst those fans that disapprove of Woodward’s transfer policy and lack of action.
The petition leads with the following statement and open letter:
“Edward Woodward has tarnished and shamed the history and reputation of Manchester United Football Club with his complete incompetence over the 2013 Summer Transfer window. From apparently false claims about an unlimited budget to our new manager, failed public bids for hugely unrealistic targets, leaving the most important deals to the last few hours of the window, and worst of all, paying over £ 4million more than a player’s release clause on the final day of the window having allowed the clause to expire in early August. Mr Woodward has displayed such incompetence as to be negligible. He, and the corporate staff that work beneath him have displayed an abhorrent disregard for supporters and for the entire playing side of the Club. Their choice has been to ensure record commercial partnerships and sponsorship revenue that are clearly in no way intended to supplement the footballing side.
A football club should be run so that the commercial sector feeds the playing sector monetarily, allowing the playing side to generate success and interest to attract revenue for the commercial sector. It is clear now, by the actions taken by Mr Woodward in this transfer window, and the actions of the owners in the past, that Manchester United is run purely to make money for the owners and to fund their debts.
We as Manchester United supporters do not accept this, and demand that a marker be set after the complete, and utter failure of a transfer window. Mr Woodward should be vacated from his position immediately.”
