It has been 24 years that Manchester United and fans have been printing ‘Giggs 11’ on their shirts and merchandise, but as from the 2014/15 season, a new United number 11 steps forward. Ladies and gentleman, Adnan Januzaj.
This week the squad numbers need to be submitted to the Barclays Premier League ahead of the new season, and after the clubs megastore were informing fans not to have number 44 printed on their shirts for Januzaj, it was apparent that he was destined for a new squad number.
On Tuesday afternoon, before Old Trafford hosted United vs Valencia, one eagle eyed fan spotted the new promotional shirt on one of the mannequins at the entrance to the megastore, revealing Adnan Januzaj as Manchester United’s number number 11.
It was Ryan Giggs himself that requested the shirt number not be retired, and no doubt gave his approval on handing it to the talented youngster. The official squad numbers will be released over the next few days.
