The centre of Manchester United’s defence is one that Louis van Gaal will have to address this summer, after losing big names and personalities of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand. One name that almost certainly sounded like he would be coming into Old Trafford is that of Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen, but as of Wednesday it is reported that FC Barcelona have made a bid for the Arsenal captain.
The Belgian international has returned from his holiday’s after the summers World Cup over in Brazil, holidays in which he was with Robin van Persie and his wife Bouchra. Vermaelen had been linked with Manchester United all summer after falling out of favour at the centre of defence for Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
According to Sky Sports News, it is FC Barcelona that have officially started the ball rolling on bringing Thomas Vermaelen to the Nou Camp, offering Arsenal £10million for the defender.
Arsene Wenger admitted just last week that Thomas Vermaelen could leave the club this summer due to his lack of playing time. No word has come from Arsenal or FC Barcelona as yet in regards to this latest bid. The player himself might be leaning towards a move to Old Trafford is United were to come in with an official bid in the coming days.
