Ashley Young not going down without a fight at Manchester United

United midfielder Ashley Young has been one of the most predictable players to be sold by Manchester United this summer. However, he seems to have a strong desire to stay with United, and has made his name known again with his performance during the US tour.

Young was a huge transfer subject this summer after his lack of quality showings during his time under David Moyes or even Sir Alex Ferguson, and United supporters made it known on social media that they wanted him gone. But Young seems to want to stay, as his performance in the pre-season tour seems to be one of the highlights of his time with United.

Young Played a big role in the match against Real Madrid where he scored two goals, and had a strong overall performance. He also had a few strong moments in the International Champions Cup final against Liverpool, where made strong technical moves and (Add if scores). Young now seems to be a major part of Louis Van Gaal’s squad, so long as he maintains this pre-season performance for the first half of the season.

Not many people expected this showing, but it is a good thing to see. If Young can fit well in Van Gaal’s plan, that’s one less player we have to sell, and one less player we have to pay a high price for, as well as adapt to a new team. If Young continues to perform well, we will keep one of our Fergie bought players, something we may want to hold on to as long as we can with the exits of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, as well of the retirements of Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, who still remain United staff.

Young has slowly become less of a rumour unlike Javier Hernandez, who seems to be one of United’s most rumoured players for transfers by Atletico Madrid with Shinji Kagawa who also is looking likely to leave the United squad after Van Gaal stated Kagawa’s preferred Number 10 role would be take by Rooney, Mata, or Januzaj. A. Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are the two likely teams to offer a bid for him, with Van Gaal most likely willing to sell him.

Young’s efforts in the US tour have been promising. With Van Gaal’s new plans and strategies, it’s good to see Young find a fit in the United squad, as he is not a player we’d like to have to play against. Young is a very talented player, and although he did not fit in Moyes’ or Fergie’s plans, he seems to have slipped his way into Van Gaal’s plans.
