As the successful Manchester United pre-season tour of the United States of America comes to a close this evening against Liverpool in the final of the International Champions Cup in Miami, Louis van Gaal could well inform those players of whom he does not require for the new season to leave the club as soon as tomorrow, according to the Daily Mail.
There is much speculation about the future of many players that are currently out on the US tour, including Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa and Wilfried Zaha who have all been linked with a move away from the club in the past week. Atletico Bilbao are said to be interested in taking both Kagawa and Hernandez away from Old Trafford.
But time is not one thing that Louis van Gaal is said to be giving players, if they have not impressed him enough over the past few weeks in the states, then their need for a squad place is surplus to requirements, and one that they will be informed about before they land back into Manchester after tonight’s final.
It is said to be a summer of ins and outs at Old Trafford, with Louis van Gaal trying to energise the squad that had been left to him from Sir Alex Ferguson and David Moyes last term.
Louis van Gaal is not one to mix his words, and the Mail report that he will tell the players direct if they are, or not in his plans for the new season. Speaking in his press conference last night in Miami, van Gaal said:
“I shall make judgements. After this [US] tour I shall make judgements because I let all the players play and I know now more than before the tour
“But also it’s a little bit soon to judge. In football you have to judge because you have to give a chance to the player to make a transfer when I see that his prospects to play aren’t so high.
“Then you have to say it. And you have to say it in advance.
“When it is August 31, it is too late. So I shall say to the players what I think after this tour. To them, but not to you.”
Louis van Gaal now has Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj back in training at Carrington, who are being monitored every session by his back-room staff. Fellaini is a name that has been constantly linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer, with Napoli interested in the Belgium midfielder.
Loan moves will also be on the agenda for many of the young reds coming out of the club, with Michael Keane, Tyler Blackett, Jesse Lingard, William Keane and Tom Lawrence all likely to get a loan move sorted in the coming months.
