Louis van Gaal is not one to mix up his words, and when he orders you to train on your own to get fitness levels to the maximum, you do so. This is exactly what has happened to Manchester United’s latest signing Luke Shaw.
On Monday evening, Luke Shaw trained away from the rest of the Manchester United squad in their open training session at the FedEx Stadium, the media were quick to pick up on this fact, asking Louis van Gaal if the 19-year-old was injured, as ever you get the truth from the new United boss – Shaw had three-weeks off after the World Cup, time to relax and go on holiday with friends to Marbella before moving to Manchester. Time off in which he may have let his fitness slump slightly.
Louis Van Gaal said:
“He’s ok but I’m always the a trainer-coach who looks at individual players and what they need. He needs to be fit and he is not very fit therefore he can’t produce the performance that I want.
“So he has to get himself fit and train individually. I can’t judge when he will be ready.
Manchester United face Inter Milan tonight and Louis van Gaal confirmed that Wilfried Zaha will make his first tour appearance against United’s former central defender Nemanja Vidic.
Van Gaal added: “When we play this system he [Zaha] has to play as a striker because he cannot play in this system as a winger.”
