It has been the name that sends shivers down Manchester United fans backs after last summers farce of a transfer window, but it seem that Ed Woodward believes that this is the summer to make a name for himself, already bagging Herrera and Shaw but the CEO believes that big signings are just around the corner with the club having significant funds in place to bag players.
Ed Woodward gave a very confident interview to club channel MUTV HD at the start of the week, to then have a small meeting on Monday afternoon with various editors of the British press.
In the recent interview Woodward stated that club are not afraid to put the money on the table to get the right players needed for the squad, he said:
“The reality is that we’re not afraid of spending significant amounts of money in the transfer market.
“Whether it’s a record or not doesn’t really resonate with us. What resonates is an elite player that the manager wants who is going to be a star for Manchester United.”
It has already been a long summer of rumours for Manchester United, who’ve had to improve on the squad after a disappointing seventh in the league last term, the midfield is one area that needs addressing, Herrera has been a great addition but with Michael Carrick ruled out for 12-week, we would need to bolster that department with Arturo Vidal being linked now every single day.
Woodward went on to say that there is no budget, so players like Vidal could be signed this summer if the player wants to come to Old Trafford. He added:
“I get pointed in the direction of a target that the manager wants and there is an assessment of what that might cost and I’ll negotiate hard to do the best I can.
“I stand by what I said – there is no budget. We are in a very strong financial position. We can make big signings. That doesn’t mean we go and throw money around. Louis is the manager. We have a lot of scouting output through the last 12 months, flagging up various things to us. Louis is the one that makes the ultimate decision around who he wants in the squad.”
