The rumour mill has been turning and as always United has featured heavily. After Bryan Robson asserted that he has advised the club to shift their focus from centre midfield to centre defence, there were no surprises with the players linked. Mats Hummels was today said to have agreed a £16 million move to join Louis van Gaal at Old Trafford. Spanish outlet Sport claim the move will be finalised later this week. Whilst interest in the player is likely to be real it is madness to think Dortmund would let the World Cup winner leave for such a small fee and sure enough Jurgan Klopp has dismissed the story as ‘garbage’. Stefan De Vrij is another name who has been touted to make the move to Manchester and unlike Dortmund his club seem keen to cash in. Feyenoord owner has slapped a £10 million price tag on the Dutchman’s head which, on evidence of his World Cup performances, is rather cheap.
The Arturo Vidal rumours just won’t go away with the latest stories stating that the Chilean international has put his house in Turin up for sale. If true, it can be safely assumed that the player is planning a future away from Juventus. With Patrice Evra’s transfer to the Old Lady finally being confirmed perhaps there has been progress in talks to sign Vidal. His transfer has been the saga of the summer with united fans desperate for his signature, so it would be a real coup if Wordward pulls it off. Big claims came out of Woodward’s interview with MUTV yesterday but it is now time for him to deliver. The Serie A links do not stop there. Italian sources have today been suggesting that United are lining up a £29 million bid for Columbian winger Cuardrado. Fiorentina would be reluctant to lose their star man but now is the time to cash in after some exciting World Cup displays.
United have learned from last year’s errors and have kept extremely quiet on which players Louis van Gaal wants to acquire. Yesterday Woodward told fans to, ‘watch this space’, with regards to transfer activity and this morning the man himself flew back to Manchester on ‘club business’. Now that the World Cup stars are all returning from holiday it appears United’s transfer plans are falling into place with movement extremely likely to occur this week.
