Manchester United set to bid for Rodriguez?

No, not that one. Wolfsburg and Switzerland left-back Ricardo Rodriguez has emerged as a surprise target for Manchester United. The 21 year old racked up 5 goals and 9 assists last season thus giving him the attacking edge Van Gaal requires of his full backs. German source WAZ are reporting that a, “concrete offer” has been made for the Swiss internationals signature, who is also being coveted by Chelsea and Liverpool.

With a large chunk of Van Gaal’s transfer budget already spent on left back Luke Shaw, this bid may be confirmation that United favourite Patrice Evra could be on his way to Juventus. Loosing another experienced head at the back is a big risk for Van Gaal to take but inspired performances from Rodriguez in Brazil would suggest that he is more than capable of providing cover for 18 year old Luke Shaw.

Whether Rodriguez would be willing to start the season on the bench remains to be seen but it is difficult to imagine him shunning a firm offer to join the exciting project developing at Old Trafford.
