Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho is one of footballs worst kept secrets. It is slowly making the transition from transfer story to transfer saga with a number of different figures being touted to grab the Portuguese midfield dynamo.
Today Lisbon have broken their silence with club director Augusto Ignacio claiming that, “the termination clause ensures a great deal for sporting” or in other words Carvalho will cost £37 million. This tough stance coupled with the fact that Carvalho’s agent is Jorge Mendes means the words are more than rhetoric.
Following Van Gaals capture of Ander Herrera for well over £30 million last week it seems a rather large price for an unproven player on the fringes of the Portugal national team. Sky sources maintain he is one very much on Van Gaals radar however unless a lower fee can be negotiated with Sporting it is likely United may consider more experienced options.
