It had been coming since last summer, after Manchester United failed to bag Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao after a number of difficulties including the arrival of three ‘fake agents’ over in Bilbao – But last week Ed Woodward and new manager Louis van Gaal got their man.
Ander Herrera completed a medical and signed a four-year contract with the view of adding a fifth when the time comes around and the new United midfielder is more than excited to get started at Old Trafford, especially under Louis van Gaal.
Ander Herrera spent three years at Athletic Bilbao, where he scored 11 goals in 128 appearances.
New United manager Louis van Gaal will take charge straight away after the Netherlands go out, or end up winning the FIFA World Cup over in Brazil, and Ander Herrera admits that he is looking forward to the prospect of working with the the current Netherlands coach, speaking with ESPN, Herrera said:
“Louis van Gaal is one of the best managers in the world and, for me, I am lucky to be working with him
“I want to learn a lot of things and I cannot wait to play with Van Gaal, my new team-mates and for Manchester United. I’m really excited to go on pre-season to America and play against Roma and Inter Milan.
“I am a midfielder and one of the best qualities I have is that I always want to be involved. I want the ball and want to help my team-mates. I know the Premier League and really like it. I think I will grow up in the Premier League. It is one of the best leagues in the world.”
Ander Herrera will move to Manchester over the next week and join up with squad training at Carrington before they fly out to the USA on their pre-season tour.
