Will Manchester United end up paying £40million for Luke Shaw?

England are out of the world cup and the Luke Shaw rumour mill is back in full swing. The 18 year old left back is yet to feature for England in the world cup but is all set to make his first competitive start for England in their final group game against group leaders Costa Rica.

United have been linked with Luke Shaw ever since he made his breakthrough into the Southampton team and after a brilliant season he is seen by many as the ideal successor to Patrice Evra on the left hand side of  United’s back four. Almost all major news outlets were suggesting that a deal to bring the attacking fullback would be concluded before the world cup. The move did not materialize before the world cup as Southampton were unwilling to do any business regarding their star assets Adam Lallana and Luke Shaw until a new manager had been appointed. Since then Ronald Koeman has  been announced as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.

As Luke Shaw is set to make his competitive debut for England The Daily Mail are reporting that Southampton and new boss Ronald Koeman want £40 million for Shaw as they attempt to keep hold of their best players.

The Daily Mirror are also reporting on Luke Shaw to Manchester United and they claim that Manchester United are willing to spend as much as £34 million to bring the youngster to old trafford. If the deal goes through it will make Luke Shaw the most expensive teenage footballer in the world. Furthermore The Mirror claim that United are willing to offer the teenager a wage of around £100,000-a-week.

What do you think? Is Luke Shaw worth £40 million? Or should Manchester United be looking elsewhere?
