Ryan Giggs stopped Thiago Alcantara’s transfer last summer

It was the much discussed rumour of last summer, that Thiago Alcantara would be joining Manchester United after an impressive Euro under-21s Championship with Spain.

But, latest revelations released today by the BBC, state that it was Ryan Giggs who didn’t think that Thiago Alcantara was a Manchester United player. It was thought through-out the fans, that it was David Moyes who called off the transfer.

Listen to the interview below:

As discussed, it was all but down to the finalising of the medical to announce that Thiago was a Manchester United player, but after a meeting with the staff of the club, Ryan Giggs decided that he was not a Manchester United player.

Thiago Alcantara then went on to join Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich, who’s son is Thiago’s agent.

If the new information is true, then Ryan Giggs has had much of a say in Manchester United’s transfer policy for longer than we realise. But, what were his thoughts on the transfer of Marouane Fellaini?
