Manchester United loanee pleads guilty to drink driving

Manchester United 20-year old midfielder Nick Powell has pleaded guilty to drink driving after being almost twice of the limit.

On Monday afternoon, Crewe Magistrates handed Nick Powell a 14-month driving ban and hefty a £5,000 fine which is to be paid with immediate effect.

The court heard that Powell, who, at the time was on loan at Wigan Athletic, was arrested in the early hours of the morning on Sunday 20th April 2014, in his hometown of Crewe driving his Vauxhall Corsa on a journey home from a nightclub with his girlfriend.

His breath test at the scene was 54mg per 100ml of breath, the legal limit is 35mg per 100ml.

Powell missed Wigan Athletics 2-1 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Monday night, with the club not commenting on the situation.

The United midfielder will now return to Carrington after a summer break, hopefully to travel with the squad to America on their summer tour and also on various PR campaigns. Manchester United press office have not commented on his driving bad, also.
