Manchester United scored three late goals to come from behind and beat Newcastle United 4-1 at St James’ Park on Saturday night.
We fell behind inside the opening two minutes when Matt Ritchie’s cross deflected off Luke Shaw to beat David de Gea at the near post.
Harry Maguire drew us level midway through the first half with an excellent header from a Juan Mata corner.
De Gea made a terrific save from close range to keep the score at 1-1 going into the break.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Marcus Rashford was fouled in the penalty area. It was initially waved play on before VAR overruled the decision to give us a penalty. However, Bruno Fernandes saw his powerful effort parried away by Karl Darlow.
Manchester United had been well on top of Steve Bruce’s side before Bruno finally broke the deadlock five minutes from time. The Portuguese star got onto a cheeky flick from Rashford inside the penalty area before finishing across goal into the top corner following an excellent first touch.
Newcastle’s heads fell after an right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka made his way into the penalty area to put the game beyond doubt in the final minute with a powerful effort into Darlow’s top corner. His first goal as a Red Devil.
There was still time for Marcus Rashford to latch onto a long ball over the top from Bruno Fernandes before producing a cool finish to make it 4-1. The striker had setup the two goals minute before.
