Odion Ighalo will cost Manchester United £15 million to make the move permanent from Shanghai Shenhua should we wish to keep the striker beyond this season, according to the Mirror.
The former Watford striker was sold to CC Yatai for £21 million in 2017 before moving to Shanghai for a mere £5.27 million in February 2019.
Ighalo has made an immediate impact in cup competitions since joining on loan at the end of January, scoring four goals in three starts in the Europa League and FA Cup combined.
It is now up to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and the Manchester United board to decide whether they want to make the deal permanent. Ighalo turns 31 before the start of next season.
We currently have Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood on our books – all three who are also capable of playing on the wings in Ole’s 4-2-3-1 formation. Greenwood has yet to establish himself as a regular first teamer but is only 18 years old.
Odion Ighalo could certainly be seen as a good short-term option for us provided he continues to score goals between now and the remainder of the season. The remainder of the 2019-20 season is in serious doubt itself due to the COVID-19 outbreak that has suspended all major leagues across Europe until April at least.
Should there be no more fixtures between now and June it would make any permanent move for Ighalo risky given that he hasn’t had much playing time in the Premier League for us.
