Real Madrid make contact with Man Utd target

Manchester United have been linked with Mauricio Pochettino even before we appointed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager.

The Argentine coach was then made available in November 2019 after he was dismissed from his duties as Tottenham Hotspur manager. However, it has been reported that any club wanting to hire his services this season would need to fork out £12 million.

We have not been the only club linked to the highly-rated manager and it is now being reported that Real Madrid have made contact with Pochettino.

The Spanish giants are currently second in La Liga, two points behind rivals Barcelona following their 2-1 loss away to Real Betis on Sunday. Their inconsistency and lack of goals under Zinedine Zidane this season have seen Mauricio Pochettino strongly linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

With pressure growing on Zidane, whose side lost 2-1 at home to Manchester City in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 tie, it’s certainly possible that they would want to bring Pochettino in as the new boss.

The question is, do Manchester United want Mauricio Pochettino as our next manager? Our form has turned around since the signing of Bruno Fernandes at the end of January. We are now three points outside of the top four, into the FA Cup quarter-finals and into the Round of 16 of the Europa League. We have kept eight clean sheets in our last 10 games in all competitions, including the weekend’s 2-0 win over Manchester City.

Spanish newspaper Diario Madridista is reporting that Real Madrid have spoken with Real Madrid, reporting:

“After the sad defeat against the City, emissaries of Real Madrid spoke with Pochettino and he told them: ‘I will wait for Real Madrid for as long as it takes’.”

One positive note for us, should the board wish to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as our next manager, is that the former Spurs boss told Sky Sports only last month that he would love to return to the Premier League.

Manchester United fans – would you prefer to keep Ole Gunnar Solksjaer or appoint Mauricio Pochettino for next season?
