Manchester United would end the weekend in seventh place and three points outside of the Champions League places with victory at Stamford Bridge on Monday night football.
We hammered Chelsea 4-0 on the opening weekend of the 2019-20 Premier League season in what was Frank Lampard’s first game in charge of this evening’s hosts.
Neither side has shown much consistency during the season and we should be in for an entertaining match in West London as a result.
Here is the team I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will send out:
Goalkeeper: David de Gea
Our goalkeeper wasn’t very busy during the first meeting against Chelsea and Tammy Abraham has been relatively quiet for them in recent weeks. Another clean sheet for David de Gea versus Chelsea would do nicely as we head into the business end of the season,
Defence: Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw
I don’t see Ole making any changes in decent even with a trip to Club Brugge in the Europa League on Thursday night. Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof should form a solid partnership to keep Abraham and co at bay, whilst Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka should find success bombing forward from their full-back roles.
Midfield: Nemanja Matic, Fred, Juan Mata
Nemanja Matic and Fred have formed a reliable partnership in the middle of the park in recent months so I expect that to continue. Juan Mata has re-found his form in recent weeks so could continue in the midfield three. The Spaniard will be looking to get the better of N’Golo Kante, who covers every blade of grass for Lampard’s side.
Attack: Daniel James, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes
Odion Ighalo is available to Solskjaer but I would expect the Nigerian to start among the substitutes. Anthony Martial hasn’t been in the best of form following Marcus Rashford’s injury but should the France international refind his form then he’s very difficult to play against. Once again I am expect to see Bruno Fernandes line up in a Manchester United shirt. Daniel James scored in the first meeting between these two back in August.
Here is our team on paper:
