Manchester United strolled into the fifth round of this season’s FA Cup with a 6-0 humiliation of Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park on Sunday.
Harry Maguire opened the scoring after 10 minutes with his first goal following his move from Leicester City over the summer. The centre-back dribbled the ball to the edge of Rovers’ area unchallenged before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the top corner.
Three minutes later Diogo Dalot also had his first goal for the club, producing a fine solo effort after receiving the ball from Anthony Martial outside of the opposition’s penalty area. The Portuguese full-back dribbled past a lackluster defensive effort before firing into the far corner.
If the game wasn’t over after 13 minutes it was three minutes later when Tranmere allowed Jesse Lingard time and space on the edge of the penalty to curl a soft effort into the corner of Scott Davies’ goal.
Phil Jones headed home from a corner five minutes before half-time and there was still time for Anthony Martial to make it 5-0 before the break shortly afterwards.
Martial and Nemanja Matic were given a rest at half-time whilst a Mason Greenwood penalty was the only goal in the second half.
