Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from the England Under-21 squad with a back injury, the club have confirmed.
The 18-year-old made his debut at this level against Turkey last month, had originally been selected by coach Aidy Boothroyd for the upcoming games against Slovenia and Austria on 11 and 15 October respectively.
Greenwood has broken into the Manchester United first team in recent weeks, scoring against Astana in the Europa League and Rochdale in the EFL Cup in recent weeks. He also made his first Premier League start in a recent fixture against Arsenal.
However, the teenager will remain at the AON Training Complex to recover from his back injury with a view to face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday 20 October in our next match after the international break.
Mason Greenwood had been our only player in the England Under-21s squad, but we have several other players representing the country at other levels over the coming week.
