Manchester United head into the international break off the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss at Newcastle United on Sunday.
The defeat leaves us down in 12th after eight games – closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League places.
Matty Longstaff scored the game’s only goal in the final 20 minutes on his full Premier League debut.
Here are my player ratings from Newcastle 1-0 Manchester United:
David de Gea 5 – Our goalkeeper had little to do all game and didn’t have a chance with the winning goal.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Allan Saint-Maximin offered a threat with his pace but Diogo Dalot had the better of the Newcastle winger for much of his time on the pitch. Saw much more of the ball himself but couldn’t pick out a teammate with either of his crosses. Went off with an injury just before the hour.
Axel Tuanzebe 8 – Looked like a seasoned pro in what was his first Premier League start at centre-back. Axel Tuanzebe read the danger very well and was comfortable on the ball.
Harry Maguire 6 – Made a crucial challenge to deny Miguel Almiron. Wasn’t the most assured performance from Harry Maguire in a Manchester United shirt. Missed a good opportunity to score himself from four yards.
Ashley Young 5 – Miguel Almiron didn’t cause too many problems up against Ashley Young, but the Paraguayan was able to get a couple of shots in. Young supported our attack down the left but apart from one corner that found Maguire, his deliveries into the box were often below par.
Scott McTominay 5 – A few wayward efforts on goal. Scott McTominay failed to control the game in central midfield like Nemanja Matic was capable of in his crime and we ended up losing the match from a central position.
Fred 3 – Conceded possession a lot and didn’t create anything with all the possession he had. Still unsure how he makes the starting lineup.
Andreas Pereira 5 – Was lost out on the right wing, which is not his natural position. Aside from one shot on target, Andreas Pereira did little to influence the game.
Juan Mata 5 – Looked after the ball in the number 10 role but didn’t create a single opportunity nor firing anything on goal himself. Starting to think that Juan Mata doesn’t want to be at Manchester United.
Daniel James 5 – Didn’t see much of the ball and only tested Martin Dubravka once. Looked tired towards the end too.
Marcus Rashford 4 – Played the full 90 minutes up front and didn’t have a single effort on goal. In fact, stats show that Marcus Rashford only had 27 touches. Partly down to the poor supply in attack but the youngster’s positioning let himself down on occasions too.
Marcos Rojo (31 mins) 5 – Came on for the injured Diogo Dalot and played centre-back. Was adequate.
Mason Greenwood (26 mins) 4 – Offered pace down the right wing but barely got a touch of the ball at all. The teenager may be playing too many games now given the amount of pressure that has already been lumped on his shoulders.
Tahith Chong (6 mins) N/A – Didn’t have any time to make an impact. Barely enough time to touch the ball given the lack of attacks we had.
