Manchester United are in action at Southampton tomorrow lunchtime as we look to bounce back from our shock defeat at home to Crystal Palace last weekend.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken to the media this morning and given a team news and injury update ahead of our trip to St Mary’s.
The news during the week was that both Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial would miss this weekend’s game after they both picked up injuries last Saturday.
Talking to MUTV, Ole was able to confirm that both Luke and Anthony will miss tomorrow’s trip. He said:
“They’re doing okay, but they won’t be involved in this game. They’ll need the international break. Hopefully Anthony is ready for the Leicester game and Luke maybe another week or two after that.
“They’ve got slight injuries that they picked up in the game against Palace, and in one respect, it’s a positive time to get it, because it’s the international break for them, and they won’t miss many games.”
This is our final fixture before the international break. Our following game is at home to Leicester City on Saturday 14 September, giving both players additional time to recover.
Anthony Martial had made a good start to the season, with two goals in our opening three matches and will be a big loss for us in attack. Andreas Pereira and Juan Mata are both available to replace him, as could youngster Mason Greenwood. Ashley Young replaced Luke Shaw during the Palace game and is the obvious choice to step in at left-back on Saturday.
On top of these two absentees, both Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah are sidelined for the long-term, whilst Diogo Dalot is still injured as well.
