Manchester United start their 2019-20 Premier League campaign in just under an hour’s time when we welcome Frank Lampard’s Chelsea to Old Trafford.
The former England international will be taking charge of Chelsea for the first time after moving from Derby County over the summer, when he took the Rams to the Championship playoff final during his first year in management.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has named two of his three summer signings in the starting lineup as we look to start the new season with a victory.
The two teams are confirmed as:
David de Gea; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Andreas Pereira, Paul Pogba; Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial
Substitutes: Sergio Romero, Axel Tuanzebe, Ashley Young, Nemanja Matic, Daniel James, Juan Mata, Mason Greenwood
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Harry Maguire have been handed their debuts in a new look Manchester United defence. Maguire will partner Victor Lindelof in the middle, whilst Luke Shaw remains our first-choice left-back.
Summer signing Daniel James is among the substitutes as the boss names Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard as our front three. Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira will partner Paul Pogba in central midfield as Nemanja Matic is only named on the bench.
Kepa Arrizabalaga; Cesar Azpilicueta, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma, Emerson Palmeiri; Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, Mason Mount; Ross Barkley, Tammy Abraham, Pedro
Substitutes: Willy Caballero, Fikayo Tomori, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic, Kenedy, Olivier Giroud
Frank Lampard’s first Chelsea starting lineup gives us great encouragement this afternoon. Their best centre-back, Antonio Rudiger, is injured, so Kurt Zouma partners Andreas Christensen in the middle of their back four.
It looks as though Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho and Mason Mount will partner in a central midfield three, though this could be a four as Ross Barkley is also named in the starting XI. Kovacic was inconsistent last season whilst Jorginho was below par. Mount is making his Premier League debut after an impressive season with Derby County.
If Lampard is playing a 4-3-3 then it looks as though Barkley will be on the left flank and new signing Christian Pulisic only on the bench. Tammy Abraham is given the nod up font with Olivier Giroud on the bench. N’Golo Kante is only fit enough to be named among the substitutes.
