Manchester United completes deal for defender

United have completed the signing of Polish teenager Lukasz Bejger. The player was also a target for Manchester City and United have gotten one over their top rival.

According to  Manchester Evening News United had beaten City to sign the 16-year-old defender, who had a trial at Old Trafford in August last year.

Poland Under-16 international Bejger made his youth debut for the national team against Scotland in September and captained the U16s against Moldova earlier this year. Bejger is primarily a centre-back but can also play at right-back.

The Red Devils recruited scout Piotr Sadowski from Lech Poznan in September and the Pole may have been behind the move for Bejger.

The player is set to joined United youth team for the 2018/2019 season

Tahith Chong, Lee O’Connor, Nishan Burkart, Millen Baars, Joshua Bohui, Aliou Traore and Arnau Puigmal have all joined United’s academy since Nicky Butt took over the reins in 2016.

United are known to produce world talents in their academy. Mourinho praised the youth team after the win against Madrid in preseason. He told reporters ‘I know the kids are very young, I know they need time to grow up. ‘The good young players are too young, we don’t have good players of 20, 21, like for example Real Madrid have, our good players are young, they are 16, 17. ‘We are going to make good players from our youth team again when they grow older because I repeat, our under 23’s were relegated.’
