Gareth Southgate will be picking his World Cup squad on the 16th of May and here are some of the Manchester United players that should be picked to go to Russia. Can England win the world cup in Russia? World Cup tips will give you the best advice on which world cup bets to make for the FIFA World Cup in Russia 2018. England did not seem to have too many issues in their qualifying group and coasted to top spot in their respective group. Gareth Southgate gave many players a chance to impress and when it comes to drafting the team for the World Cup, you can be sure he will be keeping a close eye on Manchester United.
The United players that are most likely to head to Russia with the Three Lions are Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford.
Chris Smalling has surprisingly become an ever-present in our defence this year. Mourinho seems to have found trust in a player that has always had the potential to be a great central defender but has never seemed to live up to that potential. This year however he stood tall and even with many other players vying for that central spot such as Eric Baily, Phil Jones and Victor Lindelöf. These are high quality players and for Smalling to become a permanent feature in that defence says a lot about his ability. He has also proven that he can play in a two-man or a three-man back line. I would be surprised if Chris is not on that flight to Russia.
Phil Jones is a great defender but he has always been very injury prone and this has hindered his progress with us in recent years. Sir Alex Ferguson believed he had what it took to be world class but he has never been able to live up to that potential. He has not been a regular under Jose this year and he may find it tough getting into the England Squad as well.
Jesse Lingard has been a player that looks to have come out of the shadows and prove to many people that he has what it takes to play at the highest level. He goes through spells of great form and then has dips where he seems invisible but he has that X-factor which makes him a dangerous player. That X-factor is having the ability to score and change a game. He links up well with the forwards and he should be a certainty for Gareth Southgate with his pace and eye for goal.
Marcus Rashford has got all the potential in the world but he has not been given enough chances to prove that potential under Jose who has shown a lot of faith in Romelu Lukaku as his main man up top and Marcus has spent most of the season on the left wing or on the bench watching Lukaku scoring the goals he wishes he could have scored. I think Rashford will make the trip to Russia because we have all seen the little snippets of talent that are in the young boy.
