Report making the rounds claims that Manchester United target Mesut Ozil is on the verge of signing a contract extension at Arsenal.
The sensational midfielder has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this January but it all seems the Gunners have been able to convince the German to extend his stay.
The 29-year old star is in his final six month of his contract and he is free to start negotiation or sign a pre-agreement contract with foreign clubs.
Arsenal’s boss Arsene Wenger claims that the North London club are confident the Germany international will put pen to paper soon.
“Our intention is to keep Ozil at the club, hopefully we will do that very soon,” he told reporters during his press conference.
“Not close enough to be optimistic and not far enough to be pessimistic.
“The vibes I get from his commitment, his focus, his desire – he behaves like someone who is ready to commit.
“But after that negotiations are what they are.
“We are not close enough to tell you yes, he will do it.”
Ozil is highly rated at Arsenal and signing a new deal with the Gunners is something Arsenal’s fans are looking up to.
Sanchez already left the North London club for Manchester United this month and it will certainly be another huge blow should Ozil decides to join United.
Ozil new deal is expected to come with a higher weekly wages that could see him becoming the highest earner in Arsenal’s history.
The assist king joined Arsenal in 2013 from Real Madrid for a fee of £42.5m.
Since his arrival at Arsenal, the creative midfielder has been one of the most outstanding stars at Emirate stadium, making a total of 179 appearances and finding the back of the net 36 times.
