Michael Carrick Starts – 4-2-3-1 Manchester United’s Likely Line Up For Arsenal

Potential Manchester United starting lineup against Arsenal: Rooney and Rashford to start

Manchester United prepare for a blockbuster encounter against rivals Arsenal at Old Trafford on Saturday and if the Red Devils are to turnaround their current fortunes, a win on the day might just prove to be the perfect catalyst to do so.

That said, United are currently struggling with a host of injury problems ahead of the clash and here is a possible starting XI that Mourinho will go with on the day.

David De Gea’s place in the team is virtually assured every week and one can be sure that the Spaniard will prove to be crucial if United are to claim a victory from the encounter.

Arsenal boast a very dangerous attacking lineup and as a result, De Gea needs to put in a strong display on the day – especially with a makeshift backline set to lineup ahead of him.

Manchester United have been ravaged by injury problems to their key defenders and the trio of Antonio Valencia, Chris Smalling and Luke Shaw all look set to be ruled out for the encounter.

As a result, the centre back pairing is likely to consist of Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones once again while Matteo Darmian will be taking his place at right-back.

Daley Blind missed the encounter against Swansea but he is back to full fitness once again and the Dutchman is expected to start ahead of Ashley Young at left-back.

Michael Carrick proved his importance to Manchester United by putting in a classy performance during the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Swansea City and the veteran looks certain to start against Arsenal as well.

In the presence of Carrick, Paul Pogba also managed to flourish and he will be surely be looking to make a mark on Saturday. However, it is unclear as to who will start alongside Pogba at the centre of the park and it will be a choice between Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera. Morgan Schneiderlin will once again have to do with a place on the bench.

In the wide positions, Juan Mata will start and despite all the controversy surrounding him this week, even Wayne Rooney should be able to keep his place in the starting lineup.

Memphis Depay, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard will be good options for Mourinho to introduce from the bench if things are not going according to plan.

With Zlatan Ibrahimovic suspended, Marcus Rashford looks the most likely candidate to be starting the clash and he will surely be looking to make an impact on the day.

It was against Arsenal last season that Rashford managed to really showcase his talent to the entire world and the teenage sensation will be hopeful of similar impact on Saturday as well.
